What is the biological difference between a Shamrock and a Clover?
they look the same to me, but when I went to Ireland with a bunch of people, someone accidentally called a shamrock a clover and an Irish woman got very upset. They also sold lots of shamrock seeds etc.
so it makes me wonder, how can you tell between a shamrock and a clover?
as far as I know they are the same…

The shamrock, a symbol of Ireland and a registered trademark of the Republic of Ireland,[1] is a three-leafed old white clover, sometimes of the variety Trifolium repens (a white clover, known in Irish as seamair bhán) but today usually Trifolium dubium (a lesser clover, Irish: seamair bhuí).
The diminutive version of the Irish word for “clover” (”seamair”) is “seamróg”, which was anglicised as “shamrock”, representing a close approximation of the original Irish pronunciation. However, other three-leafed plants — such as black medic (Medicago lupulina), red clover (Trifolium pratense), and Common wood sorrel (genus Oxalis) — are sometimes designated as shamrocks. The shamrock was traditionally used for its medical properties and was a popular motif in Victorian times. It is also a common way to represent St. Patrick’s Day. Shamrocks are said to bring good luck.

You Don’t Have to be Irish to be Lucky
Are you full-blooded Irish? Are you just part Paddy? Maybe you’re a quarter Paddy and you want to stake your claim on that part of your heritage. Then again, maybe you don’t have an ounce of Irish in you, but you have an incredible respect for the culture. If that’s the case, then there are plenty of Irish goodies available for everyone.
However, some may find that they may not be able to acquire Irish merchandise such as t-shirts, hats, messenger bags, tote bags, mugs, and other items just any time that they want. Believe it or not, these items can be hard to find sometimes and that can be rather disheartening. But it is more about where you look rather than when you look for these beloved items. The Irish culture is something to celebrate. Where some cultures have their food, their drinks, and sports, the Irish have their homeland and that is a type of pride that should be announced whenever an individual wants.
There is nothing wrong with wanting the Luck of the Irish all of the time. As a matter of fact, what if you could go to a website, click on a picture that reflects your individual personality, and then have a choice of merchandise that matches you? That can be both a lot of fun and allow you to truly have something that you like.
Here’s an example: You’re a cop and you go to said website. You see a graphic that says, “Cop Paddy.” You click on this graphic and you are presented with Paddy merchandise that matches your very personality. You could actually become the envy of your precinct with unique merchandise such as this. The Irish is associated with Luck and even those who are not Irish won’t mind having these things in their own lives. And to think all you had to do was visit a website to be a little different.
This may sound too good to be true, but it isn’t. Such a website does exist and you can celebrate the heritage all year long, whether you are Irish or not. The truth is you do not have to be Irish to appreciate the sense of camaraderie and the spirituality that come along with the culture. There is a sense of friendship and something about sporting a shamrock or a very happy leprechaun can make even the saddest individual smile.
Most importantly, you can spread around the cheer and the luck all year long by letting the world know what kind of Paddy you are. Are you a cop, a firefighter, a cowboy, or another type of Paddy? If you are any of these, you have every right to announce that. In the meantime, you’re bringing cheer to all of those who come in contact with you. Now that’s priceless.
